The Van Gogh Immersive Experience: Is It Worth The Hype?
Updated: Oct 24, 2022
This year, we’ve been intentionally visiting local/regional museums, art exhibits, trails, etc. in southern California before we hit the road in our beloved 40 Luxxe. We recently visited the Van Gogh Experience in Los Angeles and it wasn’t what we expected…
For context, the Van Gogh Immersive Experience is an internationally-acclaimed exhibit with over 2 million visitors at the Paris stop alone! Since its 2021 debut in LA, it’s sold out almost daily and can be a hard ticket to get.
So with that said, let me start this recap by sharing what we liked about the Van Gogh experience:
So much of Van Gogh’s art has been lost, (allegedly even his own mother threw out his work because many thought it’d be worthless). So to see his art come to life vividly with the use of technology was really cool.
They passed out free sunflowers to visitors (mainly women), which was cute.
There was parking (a big deal in LA)
We were able to bring in our own snacks and push the baby around when needed in his stroller.
They also had beverages and alcohol there, which is a nice touch if that’s your thing
There’s 3 popular Van Gogh immersive exhibits and locations to choose from. And each option is uniquely curated and intermittently tours metropolitan cities around the world:
And here’s what we didn’t like or wish we knew before going to the Van Gogh experience:
Ticket prices range from $40-$55 depending on what time of day you go. $20 would’ve been a more reasonable cost.
Although we went for free, personally, it didn’t feel worth the $40-55 price tag given the short 30 minutes we were allowed to visit the exhibit. $20 would’ve been a more reasonable cost. I'm glad we had other plans in the area to fill in our time.
Although I saw at least 3 women receive a sunflower with ease, I had to go back and ask for one since it wasn’t offered to me 🙃
