Finding the Bus for Us

Like any major purchase, it’s important to do your research and prioritize your needs/wants.

We had two MUST HAVES for our bus aka skoolie to jumpstart our new lifestyle:

1. Finding something with a roof raise was at the top of our list since Eric is tall tall. He's 6’3 so this was non-negotiable. The average bus interior height is about 6 feet 👎🏿 and some manufacturers have a second height option, which is about 6 feet 6 inches. That doesn't leave much space for Eric in particular to move around comfortably.
   

2. Also a skoolie that was partially converted was another priority, as this is a huge undertaking. Between having two littles, irregular work schedules and living in a major city, we wanted to save ourselves as much labor as possible; without compromising on our specific needs as family.

We found our bus (now known as 40 Luxxe) on Craigslist in Mesa, AZ. Not only was it completely gutted with a 16 inch roof raise 🙌🏿, it came with plenty other bells and whistles. Check out the details:

• 2004 40ft All American Blue Bird 8.3 Cummins engine

• Allison transmission

• undercarriage welded below for extra storage

• 30 lb Propane tank

• 7500 watt diesel generator
